Patricia (“Pat”) Scully (maiden name: Ashton) was born on May 27, 1932. Her sister Mary was three years older. She had a happy childhood in Manchester, England (and later in Blackpool, England) with loving and caring parents. In September 1939 war was declared. By January 1940 ration books for food and clothes had been distributed, as well as gas masks. Schools closed and children and teachers were evacuated. Nightly air raids began in July 1940. Later in the war, life became easier for Pat and her family. American soldiers were stationed there. Pat and her family continued to live in Blackpool until after the war ended in 1945. Food rationing continued in England until 1947.



After WWII Pat married a US Marine Corps WWII veteran named John Scully. He served in the 6th Marine Division and took part in the invasion of Okinawa (he was 19 years old at that time); he subsequently served in the occupation of Japan.



Pat worked in various career fields, including in the automotive service and caregiving fields, and didn't retire until she was 85 years old. One of Pat’s interests in retirement (which she still does at age 94) is to go skydiving; she’s made at least 33 tandem skydiving jumps.
